Cosmic Cradle

Within this decade, humans will set foot on martian bedrock and begin a new chapter of our human story – becoming a multi-planet species.

Many martian nights will be spent stargazing a familiar sight but with one small difference. A new star will have emerged. A shining light where all life in space started. A pale blue dot.

Through my work, I hope to inspire greatness by shining light on Africa  – the cradle of humankind – and the place whence you came.

A Wise Son Makes A Glad Father – A scene with a Masai warrior teaching his boy about the stars. The Masai people are a semi-nomadic tribe in East Africa. My goal was to capture the special moment where one generation passes wisdom on to the next.

Celestial Navigator – Success for a scarab, the mighty African dung beetle, is charting a straight path away from competing critters rummaging in a mound of manure. By day they steer using a landmark or the sun, and by night the moon. How though on a moonless night? Scientists in South Africa discovered the glow from the Milky Way was their guiding light.
